Moveable screen developed at MIT.
The prototype ‘Obake’ can react to a user by creating shapes out of the screen. In the demonstration above a mountain grows and and changes the run of a river on-screen.
Six specialized motors located below a silicone liquid rubber screen control the screen’s movement. Push, pry, prod, pinch, poke and the surface is malleable enough to move. (Watch a demo here).
A small microphone below the screen picks up the noise of vibrations when a finger touches the surface. Cameras mounted above detect the movement of a user’s hand; an overhead projector is used to display images.
Dand envisions many potential applications. The “display opens up all sorts of new options,” he adds. “Like for Excel tables with row and columns. What if it could pop out a chart bar and change the data?”
I just can’t stop thinking about how creepy this is, after watching this scene in Ghostbusters 2:

Hello! Hi followers, friends, looks guys, my friend’s cat got injured, on his leg. They can’t afford the surgery so I suggested a fundraiser, to which they were really worried and sort of shy about but agreed after I offered to do it for them without using their names. I swear on my tumblr and kpop and on my love of cats and coffee that this is not a hoax. The cat’s name is Ki and he’s in a lot of pain. They noticed he was favoring his leg a little and then one night he missed a jump or something and came to them dragging his leg. They took him to the vet and were informed that instead of having to put him down, there’s a surgery available and they have the consult on monday (I’ll post a follow-up with the information they get then). All they know is it’s an expensive surgery and there’s no way they can afford it. We’re not asking for a bunch of huge donations, maybe a dollar? If enough people donate just a dollar we could do it, and help Ki. I promise, absolutely promise this is legit and it’s all I can do to help my friends and their cat… you guys know how much I love cats right? Even if you can’t do a dollar anything at all is appreciated and needed. Thank you for even taking the time to read this. Please help us spread it around? And please don’t add anyone that doesn’t reblog or donate is heartless… that’s not what this is about, we just need as much little help as we can wherever we can get it from to raise enough money to get Ki’s leg fixed.
